S. Bradley Peterson
President

Mr. Peterson is the founder and principal owner of Strategic Asset Management Inc.(SAMI). His motivation in starting SAMI was his belief that maintenance consulting achieved less success than was possible, and believed a new approach was necessary. In addition, he understood that the highest level of performance in managing assets was possible and this process needed to be articulated. Development of these concepts has led SAMI to become the world leader in Asset Management consulting.

Mr. Peterson's contributions to industry include:

  • Sponsored the creation of the Society of Maintenance & Reliability Professionals in 1992 and has served on the Board of Directors since that time
  • Led development of professional certification within SMRP, founded SMRPCo
  • Speaks extensively on the topic of Asset Management in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, South Africa and South America.
  • Published author of the following articles:

Mr. Peterson's experience has included practice leadership in two major management consulting firms, and his extensive includes working in refining, petrochemicals, pulp & paper, power generation, production & exploration, mining & minerals, steel, aluminum, automotive, office equipment fabrication, food processing, pipelines, utilities, carbon & graphite, government and transportation. His education includes an undergraduate (Phi Beta Kappa) and graduate degree in Physics and a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology.

Paul Mark Broussard, CMRP
Senior Vice President, Field Operations
Mark has enjoyed 16+ years experience in maintenance consulting, management consulting and implementation of reliability improvement initiatives. Mark has worked in this capacity for a number of industries including Steel, Food and Beverage, Nylon, Pharmaceuticals, Plastics, Agricultural, Steel, Petroleum, Automotive, and Theme Parks. He has executed projects resulting in $150+ MM in economic value to clients, and he has developed Maintenance Technology's center of excellence to improve operational efficiency, standardization, and knowledge sharing.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and has engaged in graduate study towards his MBA at Louisiana State University.

Herb Lichtenberg
Senior Vice President, Production Practice
Herb has over 20 years of manufacturing management experience including multi-plant P&L responsibility and over 16 years of manufacturing management consulting experience specializing in asset performance improvement. He has worked in numerous industries including Steel, Metal Working, Mining and Smelting, Semiconductors, Petroleum, Automotive, Paper and Chemicals. He has led the turnaround of several manufacturing operations, and implemented numerous asset performance improvement initiatives resulting in over $200 MM in economic value.

Herb holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  

Stephen Kubas, CMRP
Executive Vice President, Relationship Development
For the past twenty six years Steve has had a successful career in the Management Consulting Industry.  His focus has been exclusively on Asset Management, Reliability and Maintenance Consulting Services.  His clients are primarily in the petroleum, petrochemical and chemical industries.  Steve is an officer of SAMI and holds the position of Executive Vice President.

His record of success in initiating effective and sustainable Asset Management and Reliability improvement engagements has been consistent.  He has many personal and business references resulting from successful national and international assignments. These client references include; Exxon Mobil Corp., Imperial Oil Ltd., Shell Oil Company, Marathon Oil Company, Valero Energy, Tesoro Petroleum, Reliance Industries,   Chevron Texaco, Sunoco, Georgia Gulf Chemical and more.

Steve is active in industry organizations such as the National Petroleum Refiners Association (NPRA) and the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) through which he is an accredited and current CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional).  Steve is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in Business Administration.  He and his family currently reside in Corpus Christi, Texas.

David Army, CMRP
Vice President, Results Delivery
Mr. Army is responsible for the design and implementation of cost effective asset management strategies for SAMI. He has a strong grounding in organizational change and has helped develop the change methodologies currently in use at various client locations.

Mr. Army's Industry Highlights:

  • Developed a streamlined and performance-based process for reducing maintenance costs by identifying the appropriate strategies for maintaining a facility, while achieving corporate financial goals.
  • Serves on the Board of the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals Certifying Or-ganization.
  • Assisted a Fortune 500 life sciences company develop a strategic outsourcing plan for the operations and maintenance at their facilities in two geographic regions. He also facilitated the development of the processes to support this strategic plan.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a streamlined risk based maintenance process for a large southern petro-chemical manufacturer
  • Provided senior level process consulting services to a wide range of clients. His assignments have taken him all over the United States and Canada, and to places abroad such as Australia, Brazil, Germany, Puerto Rico, Czech Republic, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, and Spain.
  • Conducted numerous training courses in the area of work management and Maintenance Cost Management methodology.
  • Authored several papers on maintenance topics including a recent series on the Asset Reliability Continuum.

Mr. Army's experience includes over 30 years in designing and implementing maintenance, operations and asset management process improvements for power generators, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC), the Department of Energy (DOE), and domestic and international mining, industrial and petrochemical facilities.

Ralph Hedding, PE, CMRP
Vice President & Managing Director Africa
Ralph's experience in the Asset Management business spans over 34 years. In industry for 18 years, he managed the production, maintenance, and engineering operations for some of the country's largest Aluminum and other non-ferrous metals producing facilities. His background encompasses both technical and operations management. He is a degreed and registered professional mechanical engineer.

As an Asset Management consultant, his clients have been international conducting projects throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. His clients have come from all sectors of the manufacturing spectrum including Petrochemical, Mining, Power Generation, Food and Beverage, Airport Facilities, Primary Metals and Fabrication, Chemicals, Semi-conductor, Textiles, in processing modes from continuous processes, batch processing and discrete manufacturing. His project leadership has provided his clients with many multiples in return on their project investment.

He has been invited to speak at many international conferences on the topic of asset management and is a regular contributor to many international publications. He is currently directing the efforts of our company in the Southern African region.

Prior to SAMI, he was Director of Consulting Services for a CMMS system software provider, then Vice President of a Management Consulting firm as their asset management practice leader.

James Davis, PE, CMRP
Vice President & Managing Director Middle East
As Vice President of Relationship Development, Jim is focused on developing and implementing Asset Management Strategies as a way of increasing Profitability through better Asset Utilization for clients in the Chemicals, Life Sciences & Metals Industries. Jim believes that the development and implementation of a global strategy for Asset Management of manufacturing assets of corporations will significantly reduce conversion costs and enhance profitability through better Asset Utilization. Major effort has been placed over the past five years studying and developing tools and methodologies for designing and implementing enterprise level reliability strategies and assisting corporate clients to develop and implement such strategies.

He is a founding member and Former Chairman of the Maintenance and Reliability Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and has published numerous papers and articles on subjects ranging from Implementing Effective PM to Enterprise Reliability Database Systems.

He is a Graduate of Auburn University and a Registered Professional Engineer who has extensive reliability re-engineering experience at the plant and corporate level. Previous experiences include assignments in the US and internationally as an Engineering Company President, Consulting Company Vice President, Corporate Consultant, Reliability Engineer, Maintenance Manager, Engineering Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, and Army Corps of Engineers Officer.

Jan Franlund
Managing Director, SAMI Europe AB
Jan's experience in Asset Management, Availability Performance and Maintenance exceeds 30 years. He has engaged in consulting activities for various industries in a number of countries. He is well known for conducting many national and international conferences, seminars and training courses, as well as presenting many papers at such events.

He was employed by a large Swedish Consultancy Company for 25 years, primarily as the department manager for consulting activities within reliability and maintenance. He was a project leader for the development of maintenance intiatives within the Austrian Defence, and he was the company manager for a subsidiary of the Swedish consultancy company in Norway, primarily managing maintenance consulting activities for the Norwegian Defence.

Jan is the Chairman of the Swedish Maintenance Society, UTEK. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the European Federation of National Maintenance Societies, EFNMS. (The members of the EFNMS are the National Maintenance Societies from 18 European Countries.) Between October 1999 and October 2001 he was the President of EFNMS. He is the Chairman of the EFNMS Certification of European Experts in Maintenance Management. He is the Swedish representative for European Standardization work within CEN, regarding Maintenance Contracts, Maintenance Terminology and Key Performance Indicators in Maintenance.

Jan has been the Managing Director of SAMI Europe AB since 1999. As such, Jan is primarily acting for the development of SAMI business in the Scandinavian and European markets.

Michael Frilling
Director, Marketing & Administration
Michael Frilling is the Director of Marketing & Administration for SAMI. Michael has worked in marketing for 10 years in a number of industries, and he currently leads all marketing initiatives for SAMI. He has been an active member of the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals and involved with numerous other professional associations including the Direct Marketing Association. Michael speaks on the topic of Asset Management at numerous technical and professional conferences around the world, and he has engaged in field consulting work for clients in petroleum refining, chemical processing and power generation. He also oversees SAMI's administrative functions and currently serves as the corporate Treasurer. Michael is a graduate of Boston University with a bachelor's degree in the humanities, and he is a Phi Beta Kappa.
